Ascension of the Lord May 20, 2012
|
The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday.
Christ's bodily Ascension foreshadows our own entrance into Heaven not simply as souls, after our death, but as glorified bodies, after the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgment. In redeeming mankind, Christ not only offered salvation to our souls but began the restoration of the material world itself to the glory that God intended before Adam's fall. (Scott P. Richert)
Here are some intriguing words for contemplation on the Ascension:
"The Church of Christ does not so much have a mission as the Mission of Christ has a Church."
It is Christ's mission, Christ's work, that we are invited to take up. We have to figure out what part of the work is ours.

ARCHBISHOP’S CHARITIES AND DEVELOPMENT DRIVE
Holy Rosary—St. Richard
Goal for ABCD 2012: $145,056.00
RAISED TO DATE:
$111,547.00 77%
We thank each and everyone one of our parishioners who have made this sacrificial pledge in support of so many charities, institutions and organizations in the Archdiocese of Miami.
Your generosity to the Archbishop’s Charities and Development Campaign, or ABCD, supports the formation of seminarians, priests, and permanent deacons; the Discalced Carmelites Nuns’ prayer ministry; Respect Life; Family Life Ministry; Catholic Schools; Religious Education; Ecclesial Lay Ministry; and the Communications Programs of the Archdiocese of Miami, to include Radio Paz and the Florida Catholic. ABCD also supports Catholic Charities, Catholic Legal Services, Marian Center, Catholic Health Services, MorningStar Renewal Center, the Mission Office and the Migrant Ministry. To ensure that these programs remain vital resources in our community, everyone’s participation is needed. To this effect, the Archdiocese of Miami assigns a set amount of funds to be raised by every parish, based on the revenues the parish reported in Fiscal Year 2010.
The Archdiocesan Assessment is a form of tax that all parishes pay to the Archdiocese of Miami in a calendar year to help maintain the administrative expenses of the Archdiocese, such as the Human Resources Office, Finance Office, and other operational departments, which in turn provide support to the parishes. Holy Rosary-St. Richard’s assessment for 2012 is $89,831.00, payable in 12 monthly installments. Any ABCD funds not raised through our 2012 ABCD parish goal - to date, $33,509.00 - will be added to the Archdiocesan assessment installment due in December of 2012; therefore, increasing our parish’s operating expenses. Likewise, if our parish exceeds its ABCD goal, then all funds raised above the goal will be applied toward the 2013 parish assessment. We will regularly update this column with the funds raised to date through our ABCD parish goal.

The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) follows the Holy Father’s direction that we make good use of our digital presence in the world by making it easy to access the important ideals of the Catholic faith online and through television, radio, and print media. CCC provides content the way you need it, in podcasts for daily readings, on websites to connect with other faithful, and on social networking sites. Please be generous in this week’s Collection and support this important work. Remember, half of your donations stay in our (arch)diocese to support our communication needs. CCC is how the Good News gets around to you.

MONTHLY MESSAGE
Drawing on the death of her two oldest children
in a car accident a dozen years ago,
Elaine Stillwell, in her pamphlet Stepping Stone for the Bereaved, offers uplifting meditations to help the bereaved.
Holy Shelter
"Let me abide in your tent forever,
find refuge under the shelter of your wings."
Psalm 61:4.
Reflection
Embrace me.
Let me feel the warmth of your
presence and the safety of your love
in my time of need.
Clothe me in the garment
of your gentle kindness.
Protect me from the harshness of reality.
Shield my vulnerability .
Make me comfortable
with my new responsibilities.
Guide me in the decisions I make.
Hold my hand through
the seasons of my grief.
Meditation
Am I ready to have God comfort me today/
Am I opening my heart to God?
Am I able to sort out my new responsibilities?
Do I pray for help withthe decisions I must make?
Dear Friend,
Those first few weeks after the death of your loved one (or other major loss) are confusing and hectic. You may encounter myths such as: 1. All grieve the same way.
2. In 2 months your grief is over.
3. Once resolved your grief never returns.
4. You will eventually return to normal.
5. Don’t feel sorry for yourself.
6. Don’t be angry at your loved
one.
7. Protect the children from death
& grief.
8. Relationships end at death.
9. Get over your loss and move on.
10. Grief is defined by predictable stages.
In the months ahead we will explore these myths and learn more about the grieving process together.
If the messages don’t seem to fit right now, lay them aside and reread them at a later time. Many people are praying for you. May you be strengthened by these prayers.
Peace & comfort,
The HRSR Faith Community, Staff. and Bereavement Ministers
